Summer Exhibition Wish List

Summer has finally arrived in London! And how do I know this? Because my nose is runny, my eyes are itchy and I have developed a small amount of agoraphobia, damn you pollen!!!!! If it wasn’t for this indicator I think the whole concept of summer 2012 would have been lost on me.

But fear not London’s grey skies and rainy days are not completely bad, one of the good things about the rainy weather and cold days is guilt free roaming around museums and galleries (there’s something about a sunny day in London that makes me feel guilty staying in a covered place).

For this months of June to July I’m especially exited about the following exhibitions:

  • Christian Louboutin at the Design Museum in London 1st May-9th July 2012
  • Doris Salcedo at the White Cube located in Mason’s Yard 25th May-30th June 2012
  • Tom Stoddart at London South Bank 25th July-11th September 2012

For now until I have a chance to visit the exhibitions I will leave you with some of my favourite works by the selected artists.

It’s in the fabric

For this post I will take you back in time, to the moment when I first discovered Photoshop. The assignment was to create a set of three prints that used collage both made manually and using Photoshop, that worked as a narrative, the inspiration that we all had build up our images from was Kafka’s Metamorphosis. This was my result.

Please…

But please sign the petition “The Brazilian Congress has just passed a catastrophic forestry bill that gives loggers and farmers free rein to cut down huge swaths of the Amazon. Now only President Dilma can stop it.” http://www.avaaz.org/en/veto_dilma_global/?wLvUcdb or if you prefer http://www.greenpeace.org/international/en/campaigns/forests/amazon/Tell-President-Dilma-Rousseff-to-veto-the-new-Forest-Code-bill/

Debora Arango

Image

Debora Arango, Montañas

Her work is currently being exhibited el Museo Nacional de Colombia until August, how I wish to be able to see it. In the mean time, now that I am finally free I will spend some quality time learning more about her, and her work. It’s always nice to get the perspective of not just a Colombian artist, but a painter, and female who dealt with social issues. If anyone knows any good books, links etc that you can recommend please let me know what they are.

In the meantime here is a useful link (In Spanish I’m sorry) if you are around Colombia and want to see some art. http://www.revistaarcadia.com/arte/galeria/el-arte-tapujos-debora-arango/28427 or just Click on the picture.

Sorry!!!

Just a quick apology for the messy state of some of the pages in the blog, I’m still making some changes to it and as soon as I have more time will fix all the glitches.

I’m glad to announce the Fourth Bridge Exhibition opening was a success, thank you to everyone who made it, and made it happen. it would not have been the same without you. I’m specially thankful for all the friends and family; the majority of them who for the first time got the chance to see my work, that came to support me and all the other artists, words cannot express how much I appreciate your support.

But of course a special thanks goes out to my mother with whom all the work could not have been completed: despite my slow speed when working did not complain much, she was a patient model (at times).
